Petrel Play Overview
The Petrel Play is finally a reality! Thorough Sea Trials have been very successful and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. After consulting with a pair of highly trained composite engineers, the layups have been finalized to offer a light but solid kayak.
The Petrel Play is the result of years of design refinement by Guillemot Kayaks. The more minor sister to the legendary Petrel, the Play has all of the intuitive responsiveness at a shorter length. The Play rewards the experienced paddler with instant and precise response. The novice will enjoy its confidence-inspiring secondary stability. In the open water of the ocean, it is ideally at home. The hull design catches waves eagerly, often with a single paddle stroke. On flat water, it is a joy to paddle. It keeps up with longer kayaks due to its long waterline, yet turns on a dime with subtle inputs. We've done countless demos and the response has been universally one word..."Wow".
We want this to be fun! We will guide you through the process of selecting the layup, color options and deck rigging design. All you have to do is bring your imagination. Since every boat is built with the paddler in mind, we want the experience to be personal.
Option: Fiberglass Infusion
Weight: 40 pounds
Cost: $4,999 + tax
We take a combination of different weight E-Glass cloths and orient them for maximum durability. With a Gelcoat finish, we have selected a variety of cloths and fiber orientations to achieve a super tough layup that would be an option by other kayak manufacturers. We add a layer of Innegra to balance the toughness with lightweight and infuse it with Epoxy Resin. With a weight of 40 pounds, this layup is more than the average paddler will ever need in terms of toughness.
Option: Basalt/Innegra
Weight: 36 pounds
Cost: $5,499 + tax
This layup is for the active water paddler or instructor/guide who puts their equipment to the test and paddles in extreme conditions. We utilize an inner and outer layer of Basalt/Innegra fabric which sandwiches Biaxial Fiberglass. The unique look of the Basalt/Innegra is distinctive, but the real value is in its durability. This is an extremely tough layaup that we have tried to break in real world "destructive" on water testing. We have yet to be successful in finding its limits and will stack it up against any Expedition stlye layup. Just as all of our layup, it is infused with Epoxy Resin to take advantage of the amazing properties that Basalt and Innegra provide.
Option: Hybrid Basalt/Innegra Hull with Carbon Fiber Deck
Weight: 34 pounds
Cost: $6,299 + tax
Take the ultra tough Basalt/Innegra hull and match it to a Carbon fiber layup deck. You will get the strength of the Basalt/Innegra where it counts and combine it with the stiffness and light weight of Carbon fiber on the deck. If you want it all, lightweight and ultimate strength, this layup will give you both. With optional clear coating on the deck to show off the Carbon Fiber, this option will stand out among the competition.
Option: Carbon Lite
Weight: 30 pounds
Cost: $6,499 + tax
The layup for the paddler wanting the lightest boat possible. We have combined the light weight of Carbon Fiber, with the toughness of Innegra for an ultralight and durable layup. In the past, carbon boats have needed special care when paddling to avoid damage. Not anymore. We have tested this combination and it is simply amazing and durable.
